ISR Season 4 Episode 1: A Time for Healing – Muslema Purmul

Muslema Purmul was born in Raleigh, North Carolina and raised in San Diego, California. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in the Study of Religion and a Bachelor’s in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of California at San Diego. She has served the Muslim Students’ Association, MSA West and the Muslim American Society (MAS) in various capacities, is an active MAS member, and a scholarship student with the Islamic American University. Muslema and her husband, Jamaal Diwan, participated in the International Union of Muslim Scholars “Future Scholars Program” in 2008/2009. They are currently pursuing Bachelor’s degrees in the College of Shari`ah at al-Azhar University in Cairo, and Master’s degrees from the American University in Cairo in Arabic Studies with an emphasis in Islamic Studies.

ISR Season 4 Episode 2: The Great Names of Allah – Dr. Imad Bayoun

Dr. Imad Bayoun is widely recognized for his commitment to religious education, especially among the youth. As a lecturer for the Muslim American Society (MAS), a religious, social, cultural and educational, not-for-profit organization, and as a council member of the MAS-Inland Empire chapter, Bayoun spends most of his free time teaching others about Islam. His unique way of speaking talking to the heart has inspired many. Bayoun was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and came to the United States in 1989. He currently resides in Riverside and works as an entomologist, employed as the Insectary and Quarantine Officer at the University of California at Riverside.

ISR Season 4 Episode 3: Knowing Allah – Imam Taha Hassane

Imam Taha Hassane is currently serving as the imam of the Islamic Center of San Diego. He joined ICSD in September 2004 from the Colorado Muslim Youth Foundation where he served as a youth counselor. Imam Taha graduated from the Institute of Islamic Sciences at the University of Algiers in Algiers, Algeria and served as a high school teacher and Imam in Tenes, Algeria for ten years before coming to the United States. He also recently obtained a Master of Theology in Islamic Studies from the Graduate Theological Foundation in South Bend, Indiana and is currently registered to obtain a doctorate at the same institution.

ISR Season 4 Episode 4: Coming Close to Allah – Suhail Mulla

Ustadh Suhail Hasan Mulla was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He recieved his Bachelor’s Degree from California State University Northridge in African-American Studies. Subsequently he earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from UCLA and has worked as a social worker with the Los Angeles Unified School District since 1998.

After learning the Arabic language, Suhail began his formal studies in the Islamic Sciences. He completed a two-year Islamic Studies program at Al-Asheera Al-Muhammadiya, an Al-Azhar affiliated institute in Cairo, Egypt. He is currently pursuing a degree in Shari’ah at Al-Azhar University. In addition, he has been blessed to study with numerous Azhari scholars on an individual basis.
